Where do you meet for tutoring?
I typically meet students at their homes, at a library or cafe, or at their school or university. I can also meet over zoom if needed. I only tutor students who are in the central Virginia region.
How much do you charge?
I charge on a sliding scale: the market rate for my services is about $80-$100 per session, and my sliding scale ranges from a minimum of $45 to a maximum of $150 per session. Read my guide to choosing how much to pay on the sliding scale.
Why a sliding scale?
Mainly, I want high-quality math tutoring to be available to a variety of families and students. When families who are financially comfortable pay me a higher rate, I can afford to take on students from working-class families or community college students paying for their own tutoring. The flexibility also allows for the many different circumstances of tutoring. For instance, a family might pay more if I am driving a long distance to their home, or a little less if we are meeting for tutoring multiple times per week. I also work as a puppeteer and visual artist, and some families choose to pay a higher rate in order to sponsor my art practice.

Do you have a cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment, except for illness or emergency. Every student gets one free last-minute cancellation (stuff happens!), but after that, I have a $50 fee for appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
How often do you meet with students?
I recommend meeting once a week at a regular time for most students. For a student who is extremely far behind in a class, I recommend meeting more frequently at first and then going down to once a week. I also schedule one-time appointments on an as-needed basis.
When are you available for appointments?
I typically schedule weekly appointments on Mondays through Thursdays, and on Sunday afternoons. I have even more flexibility for one-time appointments.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I take cash and check, and I also I accept PayPal payments through the link paypal.me/mathwithmiranda
What ages of students do you tutor?
I have experience tutoring all ages, from elementary to college students to seniors to everybody in between! My primary focus is prealgebra through calculus, roughly grades 6 to 12. I love working on math enrichment activities with people of any age.
What if I have a MATH EMERGENCY?!
All students with standing appointments are welcome to text or email me any time with math questions that come up, and I will get back to you within 24 hours. I recommend you send a photo of the problem and your work, so I can see what you’ve tried.
