This guide is designed to help you make an appropriate choice about how much to pay. Each example rate has statements that might be true about someone who pays that rate. Choose the statements that are true for you, and then choose a fee that’s basically in the middle of your statements. Everyone’s financial situation is complicated, it’s okay! Remember, the sliding scale is not for you to choose the value of my services, it is to make math tutoring available to a range of students.
| $150 per session | -Our family has access to generational wealth and we could choose not to work -Both parents make a six figure salary -We can easily afford luxuries like international leisure travel and fancy restaurants -I want to sponsor Miranda taking on a student who is unable to pay -Miranda travels a very long distance to meet with us |
| $120 per session | -We own our own home and do not have debt -Our household makes well over the median household income (~$125,000) -We can comfortably send our child(ren) to private school -We meet for a 1.5 or 2 hour tutoring session -Miranda travels twenty minutes or more to meet with us |
| $90 per session | -I want to pay the approximate market rate for Miranda’s tutoring -My family can afford what we need plus extras -Our family earns the area median income or more -Miranda travels to meet with us |
| $65 per session | -I support many dependents (children, elders, people with disabilities) -Our family has debts that limit our disposable income -We make less than the area median income -We rent by necessity or we own a home with a large mortgage. -We meet with Miranda for less than a full hour -We meet Miranda at a time and place convenient to her |
| $45 per session | -I am a student paying for my own tutoring -Our family lives paycheck to paycheck -We are not always able to meet our basic needs -The student receiving tutoring will be the first person in their family to go to college |
